So you’ve had your baby (or are counting down the days) and suddenly everyone’s saying “You’ll want newborn photos - they grow so fast!”
And they’re not wrong - but here’s the thing: it doesn’t have to be a big production. You don’t have to pack up your tiny, sleepy, milk-drunk newborn and hike all the way to a studio. You don’t need matching outfits or a Pinterest mood board (although you can). You don’t even need to clean the whole house (seriously).
If you’re based in Blacktown and greater Sydney and looking for newborn photos without leaving the house, you’re in the right place. Let’s chat about in-home newborn photography in Blacktown - the relaxed kind that doesn’t involve dragging your baby to a studio or stressing about the mess in your lounge room.
As a Blacktown newborn photographer (and mum myself), I’ve photographed many beautiful families at home. Here’s what I want you to know before booking a session like this.
1. The best part? You don’t have to go anywhere.
No packing bags, no forgetting the wipes, no trying to time the car trip between feeds. I come to you — to your space, where you feel most relaxed.
Most sessions happen in the bedroom, nursery or lounge, but some of my all-time favourites have been in the kitchen while mama warms the bottle for bub or out on the verandah bathed in the morning light.
Your home doesn’t need to be spotless or styled. This session is about what life looks like right now - not some curated version of it. Imagine looking back in 20 years, 40 years even, and saying, “Remember when we used to live in that house, how tiny bub was back then, when...?”
That nostalgia? You’ll feel it in every frame.

2. Honest, heartfelt photos - just as you arE
I don’t bring props, wraps or fancy setups. No perfectly curled baby poses or backdrops. Just me, my camera, and the light we’ve got to play with.
Lifestyle newborn sessions are real, emotive, and lightly guided. I’ll gently direct you into natural positions that look and feel like you - soft cuddles on the bed, baby nestled on your chest, the way you hold their tiny hand while talking to your partner. Then I step back and let the magic happen.
Whether they’re snoozing on your chest, feeding halfway through or having a mid-session poop explosion - honestly, those are sometimes the best photos.

3. “But I’m not photo-ready…”
Okay, deep breath. I hear this all the time.
Here’s the truth: I’m not coming to photograph perfection. I’m coming to photograph connection.
You don’t need makeup (unless you're feeling fancy). You don’t need to dress up. Wear something comfy. Soft tones, plain or minimal patterns work beautifully. Florals are lovely, but definitely skip logos and bold graphics (even if it’s your favourite vintage Metallica - I know, I’m sorry).
And if you’re still unsure? Let’s chat before the shoot. I’ll talk you through it all and make sure we’ve got a plan that makes you feel relaxed, supported, and never rushed. Baby needs a feed? We pause. A change? All good. We’re on baby time, always.
"Ana was amazing! She was professional, kind, guided us, and made us feel so comfortable. She took the time to capture so many beautiful family photos and precious shots of our newborn that we will forever cherish." — Tess
"It felt like an old friend taking our photos. She captured our little family’s candid moments and delivered our photos with stunning & tasteful editing." — Olivia
4. One of my favourite sessions ever...
A dad once asked me, “Hey, do you think we can take a few shots of me and bub in the garage?”
Turns out he was a car enthusiast - and wanted a photo of his tiny 2-week-old son cradled in his arms, nestled inside the driver’s seat.
“One day,” he said, “I’ll show him these. Hopefully we’ll rebuild one together.”
That’s what in-home sessions give you - photos that mean something to you. Because one day, this will mean everything.

5. Booking early helps (but if bub’s already here, don’t stress)
The ideal time to book is while you're still pregnant - that way, I can pencil in your due date and be on standby for when baby arrives.
But if your little one is already here and you’ve just realised you want photos (hello, 3am Instagram scroll), reach out anyway. I always do my best to fit in last-minute newborn sessions.
I recommend photographing your bub within the first four weeks - when they’re at their sleepiest and snuggliest - but older newborns are still beautiful to capture, just with a bit more wriggling and wide-eyed wonder.
6. What to wear, what to prep, and what not to stress about
A quick tidy of the bedroom or nursery (shove things in a laundry basket if you must), open up the blinds to let in that beautiful natural light, and dress in something simple and comfy.
Baby can wear a plain onesie or even just a nappy if it’s warm enough. If there’s a sentimental blanket or toy you love, we can absolutely include it.

7. The photos (and what happens next)
After our session, I’ll carefully edit your images in my signature style — warm, timeless, with every photo hand-edited with intention. I want your gallery to feel cohesive, emotional, and just a little bit magical — like how it felt in the moment, not just how it looked.
You’ll receive your gallery within 2–4 weeks and be able to choose your package from there. My collections start at $495, with the flexibility to upgrade once you’ve seen your images.
“Ana definitely made myself and partner comfortable all throughout the shoot and was very gentle handling our Bub. She listened to our requests and came through with exactly what we were looking for.” — Ry
